Norcia to Cascia

Having decided that the wisest thing to do was to start walking just after sunrise I set off around 6am on my 9 miles for the day. the morning was cooler and fresh with low clouds across the plains- the Plain of St Scholasticia which I later discovered I would cross on the way to Cascia.

I was rather taken by all the wild flowers.

The first section was all quite straight forward and then the hills came. Thankfully there was plenty of shade and water fountains and the views made it all worth while. I arrived in Cascia around 1130 with some despair, as I had come down a large hill only to go up a steep road to discover I had to go down and up again to reach the town!

I checked in and afterwards went to the Basilica of St Rita and then stumbled upon a local museum. Cascia was quite a significant location even before the Roman era and so in excavations they had found some interesting things! I do enjoy the little museums in Italian towns as they often hold a number of lovely treasures.
