This pathway follows the life of St Benedict of Norcia (Nursia in English) from where he was born in Norcia, to where he died in Monte Cassino. There are 16 stages totalling to 180 miles (300km) walking through the middle of Italy with stunning scenery. It isn’t a ‘normal’ pilgrim route in the sense that it isn’t a pathway that we know has been trod by 1000s over hundreds of years, nor is there a particular shrine at the end of it, like you may find when walking to Santiago in Spain, or if you walked from Canterbury to Jerusalem or Rome. What this path does have is a huge amount of history, art, stones worn down by the knees of holy people, convents, monasteries as well as the National Park of Mount Sibillni and Mt Simbruini, waterfalls in town centres, lakes and the river Aniene through Lazio.
